External violence is when a collision occurs and an injury happens as a result. For example when someone is tackled in footy it may result in a fracture which would be labelled as external violence.
Minor sports injuries
Some minor sports injuries may include bruises and cuts, slight muscle strains, stitches, minor blisters, sprains and cramps.
Major sports injuries
Some more serious sports injuries could be one of the following concussion, cartilage damage, fractures, dislocations and loss of consciousness.
Acute injuries
An acute injury can be described as an injury with a rapid onset from a single incident. For example if you have never had an ankle injury and then you run and sprain your ankle this is an acute injury.
Chronic injury
A chronic injury lasts a long time and doesn't respond to rest, an example of a chronic injury is an ankle injury that always becomes aggravated on use and resting doesn't help.
Overuse injury
An overuse injury develops over a long period of time, it doesn't occur from a single incident. For example the athlete has a pre-existing injury, and repeated stress adds to the severity of it.
